One Last Stop
One Last Stop is a LGBTQ romance novel written by Casey McQuinston. Taking place largely on the New York subway, the book tells the story of the romance between two women, a modern-day bisexual and a 1970s butch lesbian displaced in time and trapped on the train. I loved the world of this book and wanted to explore it by redesigning the cover and select pages of the interior.
For the cover I took inspiration from maps of the New York subway system. The tracks form a heart to emphasize the romance of the story and I used the colors of the lesbian and bisexual flags to tie it to the main character’s identities. I made sure to leave the bright yellow of the Q train as an accent color throughout, since it plays such a huge role in the novel. The typeface was chosen to emulate the style of the New York subway without directly matching it. The secondary font was used to add a feminine, romantic pop to the text to match the atmosphere of the novel.
